Spicy Bloody Marys

Sunday mornings mean Bloody Marys aboard Poseidon. Because January 1st is National Bloody Mary Day I am sharing my spicy version of the cocktail with you. Traditionally the drink is made with vodka (and my preference) but John insists Meyers Rum is the only way to go. Give his version a try and let us know what you think.

You’ll need:

1 1/2 ounces vodka, or Meyers Rum
6 ounces tomato juice
2 ounces tomato sauce or puree
Celery salt
Ground Chipotle Powder
Worcestershire Sauce
Lime Juice
Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce
Prepared Horseradish
And the secret ingredient – a splash of pineapple juice
Pickled Green Beans

What you do:

I start by filling a cocktail glass with ice and sprinkling the celery salt, chipotle powder and Worcestershire sauce over the ice. Add the vodka- rum, if you follow John’s advice!, tomato juice, tomato sauce and give it a stir. Squeeze a piece of lime and drop it in too. Add the Sriracha and horseradish, to taste, but be aggressive – this is supposed to be spicy!!

Finish with a splash of pineapple juice and garnish with pickled green beans.

Cheers!
